Haji appointed acting Internal Security Minister-Kenya

In a statement to the newsroom, President Kibaki noted that Mr Haji will be in-charge of the docket alongside his Defence portfolio.

The position fell vacant following the death of Prof George Saitoti in a helicopter crash alongside his assistant Orwa Ojodeh, their bodyguards and two pilots. However, Mr Ojodeh's position remains vacant.

Samburu West MP, Simeon Lesirma is the other Internal Security Assistant Minister who worked alongside the fallen leaders.

Meanwhile, President Kibaki in consultation with Prime Minister Raila Odinga has appointed Mr Kinuthia Mwangi Wamwangi the chairperson of the Transition Authority.

The agency will be charged with coordinating transition to the devolved government.

Other members who have been appointed include: Ms Angeline Awino Hongo, Ms Safia Abdi, Ms Mary Ndeto, Ms Jacqueline Mogeni, Mr Erastus Nyaga Rweria, Mr Simeon Pkiyach, Mr Bakari Omara and Mr Dabar Maalim.
